With the release of Windows Server 2016/2019, Microsoft has changed its license model from 2 x CPU licensing to 2 x 8 CORE licensing for Standard and Datacenter editions. New and useful features like Storage Spaces Direct and Storage Replica are exclusively available in the Datacenter edition. The “Azure Hybrid Use Benefit” lets those using Windows Server with Software Assurance bring their on-premises licenses to Microsoft Azure.
